|August 16, 2012. He was on his way back from Sandalpur, a remote village, 150 kilometers from Indore. A long and fulfilling day at the college was over. The enthusiasm, sharpness and tenacity of the rural youth had impressed him. He mentioned that he was fortunate to experience the “big change” in the making.
They entered the Ghat section (small mountains) with the setting sun. “Let’s take a short break”, his friend remarked.
As they slowed their car, in the far corner, the sight of women returning to their homes touched them. Another tough day’s work. These remote parts offered far and fewer means of earning a livelihood. He talked about sustainability. The interconnect between various topics. He explained the correlation between collecting logs for daily consumption, respiratory infections and cooking gas. They talked about focused initiatives and simple solutions.
Indeed, with our efforts and consciousness, it is possible to make a difference in people’s lives and make the world run better.
